Fall 2011
Well life's been busy for me. Been dropping the ball with this site. Don't worry I won't be abandoning it, its just gonna be longer periods of time before updates. I keep asking for you guys to help out, contribute, but no one seems interested. Mission Ska was never meant to be a one woman site but rather a community page. I need someone to help me out with shows because I haven't been able to keep up with them. Not to mention reviews, heads up about new bands, stories, etc. Come on guys, if you care about the ska scene down here, help me out!

Happy New year everybody!
Some bittersweet news for RBF fans. Scott Klopfenstein is leaving RBF. He and his wife are expecting their first child and Scott's decided to stay home and be a dad I guess. Good move for him. Its sad but he's been doing it for a long time and he deserves to just have a normal life and family and such. So while we'll miss him, we're very happy for him.

...AND WE'RE BAAAAAACK!!
And this is what we're doing. We're asking for video shout outs.
If you want your band to be featured on the Mission Ska website all you have to do is make a video shout out!
Whats a video shout out you ask? Simple.
Just introduce the band members, say what band you're in and then say "Mission Ska, join the mission!".
And thats all there is to it! Just that simple and you guys get featured on missionska.com
Here's a perfect example of what I'm looking for.

Hey Guys, Melissa here. I wanted to let you guys know that I'm taking a temporary hiatus from updating the site. Don't worry, Mission Ska isn't going anywhere. I promise you that. I've just been pre-occupied with other things including some medical stuff so I haven't been good about tweeting or updating some parts of this site. I wanted to let you guys know I won't be able to update things for a couple of months till I'm all healed up. I'm gonna try to keep updating the show page though. Thats the most important part, right? Keep the pics, emails, songs, etc coming though. I may not be posting things up right now but I will def be doing it later.

New updates to the website!
● We added 2 feature bands for this month.
● We added more venues to the Miami list.
● We added a Bands page.
Coming Up...
I want to add some more pics, flyers and stories to the "old days" section. So if you were in any South FL bands or if you just used to go to shows a lot down here and have some memories to share please email me at melissa@missionska.com.

● Here's a little update on the show situation. March show is canceled. We're looking for places in Kendall to throw some all ages shows. I'm talking about any space that will accommodate a band and kids. So if you know anyone willing to use their backyard or know of any places that will host please get in touch with me . We want to find kids and bands who just want to play/listen to music and have a good time. If you're interested get in touch with me.
● Also I have a ticket for THE SPECIALS show in NYC (in April) if anyone is interested in it. I got it for a friend but he can't use it. So if you know of anyone who wants it, it was $40 ($30 plus ticketmaster fees, taxes, shipping, etc). But I'll sell it for $30.
● Big D and the Kids Table have released a video for We Can Live Anywhere. Its very fitting I think. Check it out below...

Guess what?!! My parents came through with an old dinosaur walkman! I was able to hook it up to my lappy and now BAM we're in business. I'm gonna start transferring all my old WVUM tapes. Its gonna take forever since all these tapes are 90 to 120 min a piece. Sigh...the things I do for ska.

We FINALLY own the domain! So Mission Ska is LEGIT!! WOOHOO!!! www.missionska.com yay! I'm so excited! A million thanks to Ed for making this happen. THANKS ED!! but not to worry, if you have missionska.weebly.com it will still link back to the new domain. so old videos, old links, etc will still be useful. :) but now I can start working on stickers, tshirts for the street team and (just in time) new flyers. score!

New things are in the works! Starting of course with OUR FIRST SHOW!! WOOHOO!! Coming in March! So I wanna see you all there!!! If this works out, this will be the first of many shows. We'll bring the scene back ourselves. No shows? We'll make shows. We're very DIY here at Mission Ska. We do it because we love ska and we love you!
Also Mission Ska is contributing to something bigger than our town. We're linking up with other scenes and communities around the country to share info, music, etc. So we wanna give a shout out to Gabe Pressure over at Musical Occupation as well as Courtney over at MNSKA who are trying to put together a national ska community.
